RAKIBUSTERS

In the film’s fictional story, a group of raki distillers must confront coronavirus against a cinematic deadline. Raki becomes their satirical weapon, while everyday village expertise transforms into action equipment.

The parody draws on the familiar Ghostbusters aesthetic and gives it a Cretan voice. Even its musical reference finds a local interpretation, with the lyra joining the fun.

A production across five countries during the pandemic. Shoots and contributions connect Crete with New York, London, Paris and the Beijing region at the Great Wall. The team coordinates people thousands of kilometres apart while everyday life and travel have changed radically. For Kalokairi Sto Noto, this was an unprecedented challenge of scale: one story had to maintain its rhythm, humour and optimism across different images and countries. The vehicle, handmade equipment and Cretan lyra music complete a seemingly impossible world built through real collective effort.

The video featured in television news and press reports, including ANT1. The show’s archive records it as a production that carried Cretan humour to communities abroad. An international production during lockdown made the adventure especially memorable for the team and demonstrated how far the project could now travel. The response from Greece and Greeks overseas was accompanied by television appearances and features in major news outlets.
